Small Grants Program

Funding Opportunities
Update: As of August 1, 2011, we are now accepting applications for our new Small Grants program. The Komen Central Georgia Affiliate will be offering grants up to $5,000 to support breast health education projects in local communities of need. In addition, a limited number of travel scholarships up to $500 are now available for local health professionals, survivors, and community activists wishing to attend conferences related to breast health and breast cancer. Specific scholarships are available for young survivors wishing to attend the 2012 Young Survivor's Conference in New Orleans, LA. For more information about the small grants program, please contact us at grants@komencentralga.org.

Important Dates
Small Grants Applications are accepted throughout the year.  However, requests for travel scholarships must be received at least four weeks prior to the event. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the final deadline of February 17th, 2012. Award notifications are generally made within 4 weeks after the application is received. Small Grants programs must be completed by March 30th, 2012. A final written report will be due 30 days after program/event/travel is concluded.

General Eligibility
Applicants and institutions must conform to the following eligibility criteria to be considered for funding:
• Applicants must ensure that all past and current Komen-funded grants or awards are up-to-date and in compliance with Komen requirements.
• Institutions must be located in or providing services to one or more of the following locations:
     • Baldwin County
     • Bibb County
     • Crawford County
     • Houston County
     • Jones County
     • Monroe County
     • Peach County
     • Twiggs County
• Project must be specific to breast health and/or breast cancer. Projects with well-developed programs involving breast self-awareness in target communities and populations will be given priority (These include Crawford, Jones, Monroe, and Twiggs counties and underserved populations such as African American and Hispanic women).
• The applicant must be a non-profit organization with federal tax exemption.  Individuals may not receive grants for education programs, only for travel expenses for conference attendance.
• Funding requests should not be for projects that provide direct services such as screening, diagnostics, or treatment and would normally go through the yearly peer-reviewed Komen Grant process.
• Current grantees may only apply for small grants if the small grants program will operate separately from the current project and include different persons serving as key members of the project. The goal is not to supplement current grant projects, but to reach out to new communities and populations that are currently not being served.
• Organizations and Individuals may only receive one grant award per fiscal year. (Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Affiliate). Small grants applicants are restricted to a maximum combined award of $5,000 per fiscal year, per program, for any type or combination of small grants.
• Komen Central Georgia Staff and Board Members are not eligible to receive small grants.
• Applicant must demonstrate that the program will have a substantial positive impact on breast cancer disparities in the service area.
• Applicant must be willing to acknowledge support of Komen Central Georgia
